About the Screenplay

LOGLINE:
Two strangers try to find love on the one night of the year when pre-marital sex is legal.

Written by Travis Braun, One Night Only topped The Black List in 2024, making Braun the first screenwriter to have the industry's most celebrated unproduced screenplay rank No. 1 in consecutive years.

Braun previously earned recognition for Bad Boy, his 2023 Black List screenplay, and has written for series including Muppet Babies, Vampirina, Monsters at Work, Pupstruction, T.O.T.S., and Fast Layne.

Directed by Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends with Benefits), One Night Only opens nationwide on August 7 and stars Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner, alongside Molly Ringwald, LeVar Burton, Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, Ben Marshall, Ziwe, and King Princess.

Participants are encouraged to read the screenplay before watching the film to fully appreciate the writing on the page.


About the Moderator

The discussion will be led by Steve Kaplan, one of the entertainment industry's leading experts on comedy writing.

Kaplan has taught at UCLA, NYU, and Yale, created the HBO Workspace and HBO New Writers Program, and has helped develop writers behind projects including Friends, Analyze This, Ugly Betty, Manchester by the Sea, and Hairspray.

He is also the author of The Hidden Tools of Comedy and The Comic Hero's Journey, and regularly teaches comedy workshops for writers around the world.
