On the origins of "Synthesize Me"

What inspired you to create this film?

I've always wanted to make a film where a synthesizer, an instrument I adore, plays a pivotal role. While in Mexico, the erratic electrical systems sparked the perfect setting for this story, turning electricity into a metaphor without excessive embellishment.

Challenges and surprises during production

Was there a moment that changed your perspective on the story?

Originally, the narrative was tightly focused on Violeta's perspective. However, upon arriving at the location, I realized we needed a broader visual scope to engage the audience fully.

What was the toughest creative decision you faced?

Cutting an entire scene was tough. It's a classic dilemma, but sacrifices are necessary to serve the story's core.

"The greatest strength [of indie filmmaking] is that the only stakes are telling a good story, and you alone are the source."

On audience impact and future projects

What do you hope audiences take from your film?

I hope viewers realize how often we fail to understand each other's worlds. Stepping out of ourselves is vital for empathy and love.

How has this film influenced your future storytelling?

I love weaving spectacle into unexpected places and plan to continue exploring that.

Reflections on HollyShorts and beyond

What does being part of HollyShorts mean to you?

It's everything. At one point, I doubted this film's festival potential. HollyShorts is well-regarded, and it's exciting to be part of something LA locals genuinely support.

Where do you see the film going next?

I have a feature outline in mind, exploring a ghostly element of someone 'lingering in the wires.' It has potential for expansion.

"At the core of all my work is a desire to understand everyone's lives."
