The Wrecking Crew (Ángel Manuel Soto, 2026) was released on Prime Video on January 28, 2026. This comedy action film stars two estranged half-brothers, Jonny (Jason Momoa) and James Hale (Dave Bautista). The two see each other again after many years at a funeral, after their father, Walter (Brian Keaulana), dies suddenly. I went into this film with high expectations, with all of the famous faces, so let's delve into why this movie is a must-watch. We are first introduced to Jonny and James by an awkward, strained, and tension-filled interaction. Jonny, who had moved to Ohio, and James, who stayed in their homeland of Hawaii.
One thing that stood out to me was the movie's storyline and plot. My brother and I have a good relationship, so seeing this struggle within the brotherhood between the two characters immediately caught my attention. The struggles between them throughout this entire movie are something I'm sure many brothers experience when they have shared trauma. It was a breath of fresh air to see a sibling trope where they had to learn to listen to and trust one another. Momoa and Bautista did an amazing job acting together. This is a comedic duo I never realized I had to see together on a screen.

The contrasting characters represent two different senses of humor, making this movie funny for everyone. Jonny, the younger brother, has Gen Z-type humor, using modern terms throughout the film to evoke laughs. James, the older brother, has a sense of humor that people of all ages understand. Mamoa and Bautista both clearly had fun making this movie, as shown by their interactions with one another throughout the film. Despite the two characters' lifestyle differences, it is obvious that they will be there for one another when needed.
We get to see the developing bond between the half-brothers as the movie progresses. Their hatred seems to be put aside as they work together, and actually begin to like one another. The writing throughout this film is beautiful – the family dynamics, even with the brothers' partners, are all well thought through. I personally loved seeing the entire family and how they talked to one another. The writers and actors did a wonderful job of portraying true family interactions. The cinematography of this film really lets us see the beauty of Hawaii and understand the importance of their homeland. We get plenty of landscape shots, as well as incredible color grading to make it seem just as beautiful as it is.

The way this movie was filmed, colored, and lit, and the way the actors performed, were all well done. I believe this is a movie that everyone will find fun and hilarious to watch. You get a perfect mix of action and comedy, making the film easy to watch and time fly by. Despite this being a Prime Original, it exceeded my expectations. This was a film that did a fantastic job on all fronts.
