Roots and Evolution: Where It All Began

Liana's love for all things spooky and creative can be traced back to her childhood in Southern California. Growing up as a Halloween enthusiast, she faced initial challenges in expressing her interests year-round. Over time, she learned the value of being authentic and true to herself; Liana says, "If you like something that everyone else doesn't like, that doesn't matter."

With encouragement from her supportive mother and a collaborative partner in her husband, Liana began to explore her multifaceted interests. The duo developed a puppet show themed around Halloween, recognizing a significant gap in catering to the horror community for younger audiences. Their goal was to create age-appropriate content inspired by their shared love of horror, aiming for a balance between spooky and fun.

Bringing Ideas to Life: The Journey of VAMP

Liana emphasizes that her creative endeavors are rooted in community collaboration and grassroots effort. At conventions, she networked with like-minded individuals who helped breathe life into her puppet show. "We met some friends who were doing puppets, and we just got their vibe," she explains, highlighting the power of establishing connections within the industry.

Liana shared candidly about the obstacles they faced and her belief that anyone can embark on creative projects—regardless of experience. "If I can do it, anybody can do it," is a methodology she encourages. Her ongoing journey has taught her that learning and growth are paramount, whether it’s mastering the intricacies of puppeteering or navigating construction challenges to establish a creative space.

Community Empowerment and Artistic Growth

Liana’s narrative aligns seamlessly with CFA's mission of fostering diverse filmmakers and creatives. As advocates for inclusivity in storytelling and the creative process, CFA facilitates networking events, labs, and sponsorship opportunities that echo Liana's belief in collaboration and support.

Through her work, Liana demonstrates that successful filmmakers can empower one another by sharing knowledge. She champions the idea that creativity flourishes best in open communities, where artists can exchange resources, ideas, and encouragement. "Why would I not want to help people?" she asks, reminding us of the importance of collective growth.

Liana’s journey with VAMP is a powerful reminder that creativity thrives when we step outside the boxes we’re told to fit in. By embracing multiplicity, leading with authenticity, and building through collaboration, she offers a roadmap for filmmakers who want to forge their own path.
