To be exhibited this year at NAB 2026, Sony electronics is releasing three introduction software tools that make up their XYN™(/Zin/)’s “spatial capture solution.” This solution is intended to be used primarily for film, drama, and commercial production, though they note that it has future potential to be integrated into the production of gaming, animation, and more. Sony emphasizes the high-quality display of this product, in both image display and photorealistic 3DCG assets. The software is also easily compatible with existing programs, such as Unreal Engine and Disguise.

Virtual production opens up opportunities for creatives to visualize and create scenes that otherwise may be impossible or inconvenient. Along with a focus on workspace efficiency and high-quality performance, Sony works to provide a solution that supports any vision at production-level quality.

How It Works

First, the XYN Spatial Scan Navi, a smartphone application, works to help to visualize needed angles and ideal setup for the user in collecting the photos needed for proper 3DCG asset creation. Users can view the results and see completed parts while in progress, which can help avoid missing any key images or angles and improve overall efficiency.

Being guided and able to confirm what has already been gathered helps to reduce production time and avoid errors later. Along with auto camera adjustments that occur depending on the subject itself, the process becomes more user-friendly and increases ease of use. The end result is a higher quality product with less time spent.

Second, the cloud application, XYN Spatial Scan, prioritizes a clear image display, not only showing the created 3DCG in high quality, but also reproducing other visual details such as shadows, reflections, and atmosphere. It is also compatible with the previously mentioned programs, and with the rendering process occurring independently in the cloud, progress can be rechecked and referred to continuously and on the go.

Lastly, the XYN Spatial Renderer Plugin maintains their production-level quality no matter the angle or distance of the image. There is also the ease in adjustments, bringing the user’s creativity to life with accurate subject-background lighting cohesion, depth of field, color correction, and CG overlay.

The XYN Spatial Renderer Plugin can be integrated into existing setups and works well with Sony’s “Virtual Production Tool Set”, another way to easily review the end product and avoid missing anything significant in early processes, resulting in easy changes.

Although XYN™ is limited to professional customers for now, the XYN Spatial Scan Navi smartphone application may be a useful tool for independent creators should Sony decide to open up the product to the public.
